PBI

Polybenzimidazole(PBI) is a high performance polymer with exceptional thermal stability. It has a heat deflecting temperature above 430 °C which makes it the highest heat resistant polymer currently available. PBI also has excellent, mechanical strength, wear resistance and chemical resistance properties. Therefore, PBI can be used for applications that operates under extremely high temperature, mechanical loads and chemical corrosion environments.




Thermal properties:

Mechanical and chemical properties are retained at elevated temperature
Heat deflecting temperature above 430 °C
Continuous working temperature upto 400 °C
Lowest thermal expansion coefficient of all plastic resin
Heat resistance temperature above 538 °C for intermittent use
Excellent thermal insulation
Decomposition temperature above 560 °C
No apparent glass transition temperature.
Does not readily ignite (UL94 Class V0)


Mechanical properties:

Highest compressive strength of all plastics
Highest wear resistance and load carrying capability of all engineering plastics at elevated temperature
High mechanical strength
Good dimensional stability under mechanical loads
Low coefficient of friction


Chemical properties:

Resistant to a wide range of organic and inorganic solvents
Resistant to most lubricants and oils
Very low outgassing (except water)

Electrical properties:

Good dielectric properties
Low static charge build-up

Other properties:

High ultrasonic transparency.
